About Me

I am a Registered Shiatsu Practitioner (fully qualified and insured) with the Shiatsu Society (UK) and adhere to their Code of Ethics and Professionalism.  I have been giving Shiatsu since 1996.  In addition, I am a Life Coach and 'Birthing from Within' Childbirth Mentor.

As a woman, mother of two young children, receiver and giver of Shiatsu, I believe that Shiatsu has a valuable role in supporting women through many aspects of our lives.  Whether it be for relaxation, support in difficult times, times of transition (menstrual problems, miscarriage, pregnancy, childbirth, the menopause), I have found on a personal and professional level that Shiatsu has helped.

My introduction to Shiatsu was whilst I was studying for my final Chartered Accountancy exams (a lifetime ago!).  I was experiencing some of the classic symptoms of stress - insomnia, anxiety, muscular tensions and an inability to focus coupled with feeling down a lot of the time.   In an effort to regain some balance in my life I had taken to trying out random therapies.

When I came for my first Shiatsu, I remember laying on the futon, dressed in loose clothes, thinking that this was already quite different to other therapies I’d tried. The whole one hour treatment was amazing.  The slow but deep perpendicular pressure, applied along energy channels and acupuncture points throughout my whole body, along with stretches and joint rotations all combined to help me feel more connected with myself.  All the physical, mental and emotional tensions I’d been holding began unwinding.   By the end of the session, I was feeling less like a jigsaw of disconnected pieces and more like a bar of melted Galaxy chocolate J.

That experience set me onto a path very different to the one I had started on.  I decided to find out more about Shiatsu and the more I discovered, the more the idea of becoming a Shiatsu Practitioner resonated. It felt like I was ‘coming home’. The theory behind Shiatsu (it’s based on the same Traditional Chinese Medicine theory as acupuncture) appealed to my ‘intellectual’ side whilst receiving and giving Shiatsu was, and still is, an extremely meditative and profound experience.

I decided to embark on a 3 year Shiatsu Practitioner Training course.  Having graduated from a 3 year Shiatsu Practitioners course, at one of the leading national Shiatsu Schools, I subsequently completed a Diploma Course (Part I/II/III) in 'Shiatsu for Maternity'.

Since then, I have given Shiatsu in a variety of settings including Greenwich Natural Health Centre, Immune Development Trust, the Active Birth Centre, The Treasury, pamper evenings, school and corporate events.  I currently offer Shiatsu from my home clinic in Lee, SE London, do home visits and at events .
